Marketing Tools

Let’s be honest: you could have the best website and the greatest products in the world, but if nobody knows about your business, it’s not going to be successful. A huge part of running a successful online business is website marketing. Yes, you will need to set a budget aside for marketing, but contrary to what many first-time business owners believe, it doesn’t need to be a huge one. In fact, you don’t even necessarily need to hire a marketing firm in order to get the word out about your business.

Social Media is Your Friend

As a business owner, having a social media presence is a must. On most social media sites, you can create a business page at absolutely no charge. This is a great way to get started with marketing; start a business page, add lots of photos of your products, and be sure to update regularly. And don’t forget to link to your social media pages from your website so that your customers will follow or “like” your business page. Over time, this is a great way to spread the word about your business and all that it has to offer while engaging your customers as well.

Search Engine Optimization

When somebody searches for keywords in a search engine that are similar to what your business offers (for example, when a person types “custom jewelry store” into a search engine), you want your website to be the first result that pops up, right? This is where search engine optimization (SEO) comes in.

Through SEO techniques such as backlinking, keeping (and frequently updating) a business blog, and the strategic use of keywords within your website text, you can raise your website’s rankings in the search engine results. This helps to make your website more easily found and will ultimately lead to more visitors, which can translate into more sales for your business over time.
